in rooms of memories that were not - the spaces
The exhbition "In rooms of memories that were not" is a dialogue between a Slovene modernist artist France Mihelič and my own work, made upon commision in a gallery Miklošičeva hiša in Žalec, Slovenia. For a week I have been creating the ennvironement, in connection with the selected works of Mihelič and my own interpretation of the themes of passion, death and power relation between man-artist and woman-model. I saw it as a murder of the woman, who becomes a mere object of desire and fascination, also fascination with death, maybe, not only with the erotic power of her body. Mihelič has painted and etched numerous variations of his "Daphne", many of which I see as lust-murders.
The pinacle of the work was a live performance for camera, which consitutes an important part of the final installation. In the opening of the exhibition, I made a live reenactement of the filmed performance.
A dance with an invisible presence.
A dialogue with a space (an old house with a long history) and with a famous deceased artist, Mihelic, and his characters. Dreaming in those rooms and bringing dreams into visual manifestation. Performing in own installation, video becoming part of the installation. Performing with the installation and the recorded performance. A dance with an invisible presence.
